MK Eitam Mourns Dan Shomron

Feb. 26 - Upon learning of the passing today of former IDF chief of General Staff Lt.-Gen (res) Dan Shomron, MK Effie Eitam, said:

"I served under the command of Dan Shomron during the first intifada. Shomron will be remembered as a commander who stood by his commanding officers and soldiers, especially in difficult times and in complicated situations."

Shomron, who died in a Tel Aviv hospital two weeks after suffering a massive stroke, was 70 years old.

He served as the 13th IDF chief of General Staff between 1987 and 1991. IN 1976, he served as the commander of the IDF`s ground forces and oversaw Israel`s famed hostage rescue operation at Entebbe International Airport.
